Glasshouse College recently kicked off the summer season with its annual May Festival, a key event in the college’s calendar. As part of the Ruskin Mill Trust’s “seed to table” programme, the festival gives students the chance to actively connect with nature through hands-on experiences.
Rooted in long-standing tradition, May Day celebrates the renewal and energy of the natural world as summer begins. At Glasshouse College, students and staff embraced this spirit by taking part in a lively programme of activities throughout the day.
The festival was celebrated with Maypole dancing, weaving bright ribbons, crossing the broom, and traditional songs and live music from the May Day band. The festivities culminated with actors from the Common Ground Theatre Company, dressed as characters from their production of Hamlet, crowning the Green Man and May Queen.
The festival brought the whole community together, showcasing Glasshouse College’s commitment to hands-on learning, shared celebration, and a deep, active respect for the natural world.
