On Tuesday, 12th May, Freeman College welcomed a visit from local artist and weaver Susi Clark. Susi led an inspiring and hands-on weaving workshop for students, encouraging creativity and experimentation.
She was joined by Sally Proctor, Community Producer at The Bare Project in Sheffield, and Chris Attwell from Manor Weavers, a Sheffield-based weaving group. Together, they supported students and shared their knowledge and enthusiasm for weaving.
During the workshop, students explored the unusual and exciting technique of weaving in and around the bicycle wheel spokes. Susi brought a wide range of colourful fabrics and recycled materials, allowing students to select their own combinations and create unique designs. She also demonstrated a variety of techniques to help students produce eye-catching and attractive pieces.
The completed bicycle wheels will be used as part of the upcoming ‘Common Threads’ event in Sheffield City Centre. The workshop was thoroughly enjoyed by students and resulted in some fantastic outcomes.
