On Monday, 13th April, staff at Freeman College were treated to some sunshine on their training day.
The focus for the day was Field 2 – Practical Skills Therapeutic Education. Staff headed up to the college’s outdoor provision, High Riggs Market Garden, where our Land & Animal side of the curriculum is delivered.
Staff from across the College took part in various immersive sessions, from willow weaving to composting, greenwood working, and animal care, to better understand our students’ journey first-hand. One team had the task of digging a two-foot trench, in which they laid a new freshwater pipe for the new Freeman College piglets to enjoy ahead of the drier, warmer weather this summer (pictured). We also got to say a warm welcome to the newest members of the High Riggs community – our two newly hatched chicks!
Fun fact – did you know that pigs don’t sweat and have very few functional sweat glands. Instead of sweating, pigs rely on wallowing in mud or water to cool down, which also protects their skin from sunburn and insect bites. Enjoy your new mud baths, piggies!
